Prince and County General-Welcome 2 Canada

Chef Victor Barry and Carlo the owner of County General on Queen West in Toronto have another restaurant in the city called Splendido and everyone tells me you should try it. I know it is good but for me nothing is comparable to taking my Ferrari from Monte Carlo to Portofino at breakneck speed flicking past others on the motorway and arrving at Hotel Splendido. Abolutly nothing else could compare for me. However, County General is one of my favorites, and I have taken several people there and all have liked it. To begin with Carlo the owner and Victor the Chef are great, with Carlo’s eye for detail and Victor’s for food, and the team of Bobby, Caitlin, Spencer and Megan at the bar it’s like being at home with good food, drinks with friends. County General is also near the design team of Magpie who recently designed wardrobe for Prince for his Welcome 2 Canada Tour, as well for Kevin of Barenaked Ladies who also frequents the County General.
When Prince began his tour in Toronto it had been a long day for me all on cuppaccino’s standing chatting with everyone at the venue to find out what was going on, the security team told me they were pulling fifteen hour shifts and Sammy Wong was running around looking after last minute details. Canadian fashion photographer Michael Patrick came to the show with me and after it was over it was time to chill and have some good food and County General was the destination. It was without a doubt the best choice, good food, always taste’s better when you are with good friends and County General has all the right vibe, it’s kinda like Prince it’s got the funk happening. It’s just happening. Back in Toronto still reeling from the energy of the show in good old party town capital of Canada Montreal, where would I go in Toronto? straight to County General, and this was a good call. The food as always is outstanding, as is the music the people and those you meet sitting at the bar. Last night I know I found a hidden talent a future actor. Look-out Jackie Chan. Before Prince, between Prince and after Prince concerts it’s the County General. The adventure of discovery never stops at My Name is Khan.

My Weekend With Marilyn and Prince !

My Name is Khan began this year to do things on it’s own terms, my life , my time, my way. So leaving the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth where once the man who wrote My Way for Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka also has resided I began the adventure of discovery my way. Through the streets of Old Montreal. I walked, on a sunny day crisscrossing tree lined avenues onto meandering footpaths, in search for the cappuccino. It’s never where is one going to have this cappuccino but what the people and the energy in the cafe or the restaurant that makes drinking a cappuccino at the selected destination more enjoyable. Curious about a restaurant with large windows allowing the morning shaft of light to gently pour in, I turned the corner to investigate further. A door opened and it forever changed the rhythm of my day. As in the film My Weekend with Marilyn a young mans life is changed with a meeting with Marilyn and for me this was no different, Nat King Cole, Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, wardrobe for Prince a painting of Marilyn in the gallery window all on my way to this refuge Communion. The alluring girl appeared in the door with a delicate tone, elegantly lithe with a spirit that was artful and magical stopping me in my stride. This is the magic of the accidental discovery, people and place’s. Lydie and I stood in the doorway talking and luxuriating in the sunlight yet none of my charm was successful in my attempt to get her to say a shout out to Prince, just getting a pose for a portrait was a lot of work but enjoyable. Entering Communion, I discovered it possessed all the elements I had been looking for, light, sun, flowers, wine, character to match of Lydie, great music that took you back in time of Marilyn Monroe, and a sandwich the Monte Cristo. Lydie as if by the wave of a magic wand would later introduce me to another discovery. This other discovery you will have to wait for, it was time for me to get back to Fairmont Queen Elizabeth and get ready for the madness. The adventure never stops at My Name is Khan.

Show Time Prince and The Queen !

The Audi arrived in flawless fashion to the Grande Dame of Montreal hotels the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth which first opened it’s doors in 1958, where the only Beatles whom I have never met John Lennon and Yoko Ono had their legendary Bed-in for Peace. Upon informing the valet of the valuable goods the Audi was transporting, he picked up the phone and three of his co-workers arrived guarding the Audi as if it was a armored car. The garments bags loaded on the rolling rack were protected by the hotel staff like Fort Knocks. Why not after all the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth had seen it’s share of rockers and actors from Bon Jovi, Kanye West, to Juliette Binoche and Anne Hataway. Prince and his bands new wardrobe from Magpie fashion was being escorted to a private gold floor to remain there till such time as it was under lock down in a car headed for the venue. Once the wardrobe was securely sent off to the venue, it was time to head off to Les Voyageurs for a bottle of Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon armed with my two iPhones fully charged.

The count down to show time neared the text message’s and the e mail’s began pouring in the most important text message had still not arrived, that is when you are thankful that the Fairmont has staff like Kate who was on duty and kept the nerves from fraying, the after party, the fittings, and show time was nearing. Kate Good kept everyone smiling and another bottle of Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon arrived with a small cheese plate and steak tartare. The bottled opened and the text arrived “wardrobe at venue”, then came the call “Tim, Prince loves it, can you text me the number for your designers he wants to call them”. The legs of the wine now began to look very good, in the comfort and sanctuary of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. The adventure never stops at My Name is Khan.

Rag’s for That Sexy MF Prince Welcome 2 Canada

As a little boy growing up I always had the protection of my grandmother E and the Queen E II not to mention that my friend the critically acclaimed director Shekhar Kapoor directed a brilliant film with a sterling cast the Oscar winner Elizabeth. So where would one go with the most valuable commodity for any live performer, the rag’s for the stage, especially for the critically fashion aware artist the iconic Prince Welcome 2 Canada show in Montreal? To the sanctuary of the Fairmont Le Reine Elizabeth, off-course. After all it was at the Fairmont Le Reine Elizabeth that HRH. Queen Elizabeth II came prior to her visit with my grandmother, it was at the Fairmont Le Reine Elizabeth that hosted the man who’s voice you will hear in the film My Week with Marilyn, the great Nat King Cole, and it was at the Fairmont Le Reine Elizabeth suite 1742 that John Lennon and Yoko Ono celebrated Bed-in for Peace.

Like my grandmother and HRH Elizabeth II the two ladies the cutting edge designers of Magpie fashion house of Toronto’s hippest area Queen Street West are the most amazing women. However much was happening at Magpie fashion the day I went to pick-up the garments for Prince and his band. The ladies of Magpie fashion were busy with last minute alterations for garments being prepared for Canada’s Got Talent Show and everything at Magpie that day was so very Canadian. The rolling rack was being readied for Prince Welcome 2 Canada Tour while Kevin Hearn of the Canadian band Barenaked Ladies was considering a jacket for his show at the Great Hall on Queen Street. The garment bags where ready for the Transporter the Audi waiting to zip the valuable’s to Fairmont Le Reine Elizabeth Montreal till they could be securely placed in the hands of the legendary rocker, the king of funk, the master musician Prince. It was a day of Queen, Prince and everything Canadian. The adventure never stops for My Name is Khan.

Rapscallions on Rocksmith with California Dream

Prince was in town to kick start his Welcome 2 Canada Tour, and if you did not know it Prince is the only artist to have the credits, producer, composer, lyric’s, singer, and performer as he played all the instruments on his first album while 21 years of age. Times now have changed and if you are a young aspiring musician and want to learn to play guitar you are probably going to end up learning it on Rocksmith for Xbox to the tune of my friends band Rapscallions. The best time I had during the Toronto International Film Festival was hanging out with Chris Clemence and doing a photo shoot with Toronto photographer Michael Patrick. It’s rare when you have everyone on the same page, and Chris not only went crazy full of creative energy he also donned on the fashion of Toronto’s own cutting edge fashion house Magpie the exclusive designers to visiting rock stars. Yes, Prince is a legend the master of funk, pop , jazz and rock he has inspired so many and when I spoke to Chris about Prince his response was “epic”.
The Rapscallion are the next big thing, and I am telling you this because they just did a show in Vegas and what ever happened in Vegas did not stay in Vegas. The word was out, the band rocked it with the creative energy, it’s just pure free energy, and to top it all off they are really nice dude’s who love to have fun, make music their passion and like to roll with whatever!, just like true California surfer dude’s would with a wave, just go with it. They’re a California group mixing rock, rap, and funk. Prince should have this band as his opening act, and let me tell you that would be cool, but what would really be dope if Prince and the Rapscallions jammed, that could be just be an all time high. The band has smooth up beat guitar riffs, killer bass grooves, and some great vocal performances by vocalist Matt Still. My buddy Chris well his bass groove’s are wicked. California Brain the single on Rocksmith is a freaking great song, I live the lyric’s in my dream’s “California is all I see when I close my eyes”. This song is so well done. It has the awesome rap vocals during the chorus singing over the smooth lead guitar lines, and another great bass riff matching a great drumbeat from Adam Fisher. The chorus is great and the classy solo provided by guitarist Dario Forzato is done well. I can see these guys explode, China, India, Germany and United Kingdom but then again the world is shrinking and if I was Prince I would call these guy’s up and do some mini gig’s. Prince listen up my man, let’s do a show with these dude’s in Vancouver what do you say?
