My Adventure With ‘The Great Gatsby’ To Cannes 2013

luhrmanncaprio_2563591bAustralians have always brought me good fortune. My adventure with The Great Gatsby began long ago in the 80’s when I began to put the written words of Scott Fitzgerald into practice. When I saw the first ‘Gatsby’ movie, my mind was made up. I was going to have a closet full of great shirts, ties, and suits. Style was everything. Champagne was going to be the drink in good times or bad. The word ‘impossible’ would be erased from my vocabulary. I also had to be in the movie business.

The scary part of this. It all came true. Looking back is not something I do,Gatsby TK PIC because for me life keeps moving forward meeting interesting people. Now with social media, trends change by the second and you are to live in the “NOW”.

Many of my friends were descending upon The Côte d’Azur, or in English known as the French Riviera. They would be preparing for the opening gala of the Cannes Film Festival 2013.

Messages had started to arrive why I was not there yet? both by email or by Twitter.

What many in the film business will understand when you are doing your own film as I am (currently my project on David Bowie movie), you just can’t be everywhere.

‘Hey man don’t worry about The Great Gatsby red carpet, few people you need to meet on the way.”always in this led to a magical discovery all because of The Great Gatsby. I was getting photos from my spy girl, who was following Leonardo DiCaprio down the red carpet in Cannes, as I walked out of my friends coffee RSquared on Toronto’s Queen Street West. I was checking my text messages and while deciding to go left or right began doubting myself why I was not at the opening of the festival in Cannes. “Screw it”, I thought, no one is going anywhere, they will still be in Cannes when I arrive. I turned right on Queen and started walking till a store window display brought me to a stop. Cabaret Vintage Cabaret is a store that provides high fashion vintage clothing it’s a couture dress boutique. While The Great Gatsby cast was walking down the red carpet as I was strolling into Cabaret. I was instantly hit by the vibrant energy of those inside. It was as if I had arrived at a sanctuary. I began talking to them about the film and how we are all connected, as if I had known them all my life. I never talk about the sinew that binds us. But to them I did. I got a big hug from the owner Tao Drayton who’s smile is infectious as is his energy (all good). Tao introduced me to Lyndal who was (wait a second), Australian, and worked at the store, and informed me that she had just made a short film, I simply could not believe where I had landed. The magic was spinning in true Gatsby style with Tao and Lyndal introducing me to Avery a twenty five year old blossoming talented costume buyer for the television-show Suits. What can I tell you I was blown-away. The universe had sent a message.

Lyndal set her camera on timer and we all started having fun at Cabaret. The next stop would be Cannes. Please follow this wonderful store

Clafouti Toronto – My Cafe for Tiff12

If your coming from Los Angeles then you’ll love the fact that everything at this cafe owned by my friend is made fresh daily.

The almond croissants are so good, and made with almonds from California they are made into paste in the kitchen. Now that to me is fresh.

As far as sandwiches go, everything is fantastic. Hey they even make something sweet, sexy like The Lana for Lana Del Rey.

Lana Del Rey to ‘Take This Waltz’ at Clafouti

So your wondering whats going on at Clafouti? Well they are having fun in the kitchen.

Clafouti in Toronto on Queen Street West just came up with a great and tasty sandwich named after the sexy Lana Del Rey. This is a very tasty sandwich. If you are wondering where is Clafouti? Well you can find it in the trailer for Sarah Polley’s film ‘Take This Waltz’, complete with Michelle Williams taking an aquafit class with Sarah Silverman, hanging out on a ferry boat (which island is she going to? Ward’s?), fraternizing with three gentlemen (Seth Rogen, Aaron Abrams and Luke Kirby), running by Clafouti and then taking a rickshaw down Queen Street West.

Lana Del Rey ‘Blue Jeans’ and a sandwich

Lana Del Rey is wearing little more than a white one-piece bathing suit, the 25-year-old is seen floating in a swimming pool filled with alligators who were kept at bay with the amazing Lana Del Rey sandwich.
Blue Jeans is taken from Del Rey’s critically-acclaimed first album Born to Die.
With fingers in her mouth you know he’s been feeding her the sandwich. The Lana Del Rey sandwich.

Newly released, the accompanying short for her song “Blue Jeans” sees Del Ray instead in a classic one-piece bathing suit, flashing her patented blend of emotionless allure as she devotes her heart to — and then laments the breakup with — a pursuant swimmer, played by Bradley Soileau. He also starred in Del Ray’s video for “Born to Die.”
Black and white and pulling focus throughout, the video rocks like a boat floating on a calm sea, better to peer deeply into Del Ray’s unblinking eyes.
It’s certainly a less provocative imagery than the single cover art for “Blue Jeans,” which features a man’s hand around her neck.
The video comes ahead of Del Ray’s appearance on the March 22nd American Idol.

Lana Del Rey comes from a land where magic is real and dreams come true.

Lana Del Rey and her management team are pulling their ballsiest stunt yet — the singer is scheduled to perform on ratings giant ‘American Idol.’ According to Idolator (via Prefix) the embattled crooner will tape a segment for an upcoming episode, though it hasn’t been announced when it will air.

While Lana Del Rey is may tape March 15 for American Idol, Jessica Mitchell perhaps the only singer to have tasted Lana Del Rey will also be performing the same evening at the landmark El Mocambo.

Here is a sample of everyone, the Lana Del Rey sandwich, music from both the performer on American Idol, and live performer Jessica Mitchell March 15 at El Mocombo the singer that eat Lana Del Rey. It’s all here on My Name is Khan.

Mouthful of Lana Del Rey at Magpie

There is no other person who has come out of nowhere in the last 6 months become famous and then have a sandwich named after her. While Lana Del Rey is from Lake Placid, New York, it was not New York that came up with the sandwich. London had Lana Del Rey front and center at Mulberry and it was in the United Kingdom that the sandwich was invented, it was not London that came up with the idea.

Thanks to social media, the idea emerged from Twitter a suggestion from Ireland and taken up by me to make it happen. It’s what American’s do, make things happen while others dream. In Canada it’s a small percentage who can act like American’s and among the few so far I have encountered are Magpie Fashion always ready to move and try new things, and Clafouti Toronto.

Magpie fashion which has been busy designing for Canada’s Got Talent judge Measha Brueggergosman also designs from time to time for Prince the King of Funk who once lived in Toronto. Magpie was back designing for Prince and invited a few people over to try some wine from South Australia, called Ass Kisser provided by Cottonwood Wine and the now famous mouthful sandwich created by Clafouti Lana Del Rey.

Canadian singer, songwriter was on-hand to try it as well while also getting fitted for her upcoming show. Have a look.
