Miles Davis opened doors to music for me in Chamonix during Le Tour de France 2016

One day I went to my friend and asked him to licence me his dad’s name so I could open the best jazz bar in Paris.  My friend Erin Davis is very chilled having grown up in Malibu and his dad was a great jazz musician who was loved by France, Miles Davis.  The bar never happened mainly because sometime you can be too chilled.

Le Tour de France left Switzerland arriving in Chamonix, France where the green grass touches the blue sky’s of heaven.   In the French Alps, everyone is settling or moving to wherever they will rest for the night and I do what I do, go explore.  Soon I run into a girl who seems to be telling people where to go so I decide to ask her if there are any live music spots in Chamonix?.  She informs me that there is a new place for jazz I must check out.  I tell her I love jazz, and now that I am in France it will be so cool, because one of my friend’s father what loved by France for his jazz.  Without so much as missing a beat while checking her phone she asks me who could that musician be that France loved so much.  I tell her Miles Davis.  No longer looking at the phone she hits my arm and says, “No, Miles Davis is very famous, and in France if you know music you know Miles Davis”.  Well this girl Stephanie turned me on to a few very good things.  She would take me around and introduced me to her friends and telling them about Erin, and Miles Davis.  The name Miles Davis had this magical effect on people and soon the entire world of Chamonix opened up thanks to Miles Davis.

Before telling you more of what I discovered let me have Erin Davis tell you in his own words about his father Miles Davis, and check out Miles perform live.

La Maison des Artistes, was a magic find all thanks to Stephanie, it is a jazz spot, and a recording studio.  The night I showed up Lucile Marchal was playing, check her Lucile out and through this I discovered Balcony TV, where if you if you are a musician you have to perform.

Le Café Comptoir,  a restaurant, bar and music was discovered all thanks Miles Davis and jazz and Lucile Marchal as she had made this promotional video for their Cosmo Jazz Festival.  Check it out, the jazz festival site here, Cosmo July 23 -31, 2016

We’re sorry but we are forced to cancel the concert tonight because the musicians can only happen to vallorcine due to caravan of the tour de France… When the caravan moves on…. But this is only part discount because Diego and Balthazar: we love them! We will let you know… Kisses to all… – Le Cafe Comptoir

Well as you can see Le Tour de France can sometime get in the way of music, sorry about that Le Cafe Comptoir.

Magic is real with the music of Megan Bonnell

Traveling through the vicissitudes of life, you can consider yourself very lucky indeed if you encounter the fair maiden, of lyric, sound and music the very talented Megan Bonnell.

It has been said that a women can fully make herself into a brilliant musician only when she learns to transform tragedy into art. In the case of Megan Bonnell this simply need not apply.

My fortunate encounter came by accident and one can argue that nothing in life happens by accident. The very first time I met Megan, there was a relaxed easy going manner about her that is natural, soulful, warm, comforting and her laughter instantly let’s you know that she is the real deal. Her lyrics composed come from a connection with nature that is magical.

Megan Bonnell’s song The Wind transports me to place on this earth that I guard with all the illusion that I can trow at you, Big Sur. Big Sur, California to me is my most treasured place, the surf, the waves, the trees and the untouched coastline where the tunes of Megan Bonnell can dance in your head while you await the wave on your board sitting as if grafted as one.

South Korea by Megan Bonnell is the perfect song to have dancing in your head if your surfing in Australia and are in the barrell in a space all of your own, hoping that there are no men in grey suits around, in harmony with nature like the singer songwriter herself.

More on Megan Bonnell after the Australian Grand Prix. This talented Canadian is currently working on her new album and will be performing at the famed El Mocombo and I will be returning to this historic landmark where I first met the band The Rolling Stones, to listen and watch Megan Bonnell live. Till then have a listen to Megan Bonnell.

Rapscallions on Rocksmith with California Dream

Prince was in town to kick start his Welcome 2 Canada Tour, and if you did not know it Prince is the only artist to have the credits, producer, composer, lyric’s, singer, and performer as he played all the instruments on his first album while 21 years of age. Times now have changed and if you are a young aspiring musician and want to learn to play guitar you are probably going to end up learning it on Rocksmith for Xbox to the tune of my friends band Rapscallions. The best time I had during the Toronto International Film Festival was hanging out with Chris Clemence and doing a photo shoot with Toronto photographer Michael Patrick. It’s rare when you have everyone on the same page, and Chris not only went crazy full of creative energy he also donned on the fashion of Toronto’s own cutting edge fashion house Magpie the exclusive designers to visiting rock stars. Yes, Prince is a legend the master of funk, pop , jazz and rock he has inspired so many and when I spoke to Chris about Prince his response was “epic”.
The Rapscallion are the next big thing, and I am telling you this because they just did a show in Vegas and what ever happened in Vegas did not stay in Vegas. The word was out, the band rocked it with the creative energy, it’s just pure free energy, and to top it all off they are really nice dude’s who love to have fun, make music their passion and like to roll with whatever!, just like true California surfer dude’s would with a wave, just go with it. They’re a California group mixing rock, rap, and funk. Prince should have this band as his opening act, and let me tell you that would be cool, but what would really be dope if Prince and the Rapscallions jammed, that could be just be an all time high. The band has smooth up beat guitar riffs, killer bass grooves, and some great vocal performances by vocalist Matt Still. My buddy Chris well his bass groove’s are wicked. California Brain the single on Rocksmith is a freaking great song, I live the lyric’s in my dream’s “California is all I see when I close my eyes”. This song is so well done. It has the awesome rap vocals during the chorus singing over the smooth lead guitar lines, and another great bass riff matching a great drumbeat from Adam Fisher. The chorus is great and the classy solo provided by guitarist Dario Forzato is done well. I can see these guys explode, China, India, Germany and United Kingdom but then again the world is shrinking and if I was Prince I would call these guy’s up and do some mini gig’s. Prince listen up my man, let’s do a show with these dude’s in Vancouver what do you say?
