Babe and strings – Lara St. John

“It is difficult to argue with such a technically dazzling and unfailingly musical interpretation.”

-Gramophone Magazine

Magpie fashion is bewitching created in a haunting manner by two women who are close to my heart, because they are creative, beautiful women that fly by the seat of their pants, creating fashion for both men and women that is alluring, enchanting, bewildering, dramatic, originally creativity from their imagination that is so Merlinish. The House of Magpie is a magical kingdom where those of rock, such as Prince, Andy Allo, Kevin Hearn of Barenaked Ladies, and members of Pear Jam have come to be outfitted. No Magpie fashion is not just for rock star’s, it also for those who pull strings, such as Canadian violinist Lara St. John, who wears a Magpie design dress on the cover for her album Bach Sonata’s.

The Strad magazine selected Laura St. John as one of “the stars of the next decade” and called her “an electrifying player, as deeply satisfying in Bach as she is bewitchingly seductive in Waxman’s ‘Carmen’ Fantasy. The L.A. Times has said: “St. John brings to the stage personal charisma, an unflagging musical imagination and genuine passion. Her two albums to date are bona-fide classics of the violin discography.”

Lara began playing the violin when she was 2 years old. She first soloed with orchestra at age 5, and made her European debut with the Gulbenkian Orchestra (Lisbon) five years later. She toured Spain, France, Portugal and Hungary at ages 12 and 13, entered the Curtis Institute at 14, and spent her first summer at Marlboro three years later. Bach Sonatas was released on her own label. Lara and Magpie fashion create a kingdom where magic is real and dreams come true.

Jessica Mitchell exclusive straight from the heart !

Foo Fighters said it best tonight at the Grammy’s, they recorded their album in the garage, nothing fancy, just plain good old music, working on it slowly at their own pace, creating pure magic from the heart.

Jessica Mitchell has been doing just that as well. Jessica is putting the finishing touch’s on her first full album, she is taking her time doing it, using her gifts of words, reaching deep into her soul to touch emotions that maybe painful but which lend themselves to feeling that are converted into lyric and music with her voice producing magic. This is what being an “Artist” is all about. Like Adele said tonight her album Rolling in the Deep was inspired by a rubbish relationship, as was the case with Alanis, and it’s something we all have experienced that bad relationship that scar’s, hurts, and you just have to let it hurt but like the clouds that pass allowing the sun to shine on you the hurting stops and something good always comes out of it.  In the case of Adele a Grammy winning album and now here we go with Jessica.  In this world anything is possible.

Sitting down with Jessica prior to the Grammy’s it was clear that her parents had been a big influence. They provided her not only with the gift of music, but also the material for her writing. Her album is a road trip of her life experience’s so far. It’s her Jagged Little Pill. It was funny sitting with her, it reminded me of the time sitting down with Alanis Morissette in Los Angles when she had just finished her album Jagged Pill. This was in a strange way a full circle back to Toronto. Jessica wrote her entire album and when she performs live she is a professional, she gives you everything, holding nothing back. Her music is full of range from soft ballads, to rock, to full blown anger in your grill songs and that is life, it’s a road with twits and turns. My Name is Khan will be tracking Jessica Mitchell the Canadian singer, songwriter, musician as she creates magic in her kingdom of music making dreams come true proving once again that magic is real.  My thanks to Jessica Mitchell for making the time and providing these tunes for all to enjoy. Have a listen and enjoy the voice and the words.

OMG it’s Madonna Sunset Tower Hotel – Superbowl 2012

Madonna and I go back a long time. This Michigan girl will rock the half time show at Superbowl while a former University of Michigan quarterback now a superstar with a super hot super model Mr. Tom Brady will be rocking the game.

My friend Tim and I where sitting in my opinion at one of the coolest patios in West Hollywood, at the Sunset Tower Hotel many years ago when Madonna made a grand entrance. Madonna was about to do an interview for a French Vogue, poolside overlooking Los Angles, and trust me this is a great view. Naturally Madonna was accompanied with her usual entourage, a member of this team went around clearing people off the patio as Madonna had requested. Tim and I were chill’n and kicking back and when it came time to tell us we would have to leave, both Tim and I said, “Tell Madonna no way f–k off!”. A very nervous looking assistant to an assistant reported this back and Madonna now standing on the other side of the pool, looked in our direction. Tim looked like a hell’s angle kinda dude, long hair cross earing’s touching his shoulder’s, while I had my sunglass’s drinking my cranberry and Evian mix, and at this moment I could not resist doing my “You look’n at me?” line. We were allowed to stay.

Year’s later a young girl from Canada came down with Tim from Toronto and we met back at the Sunset Tower Hotel at the very same spot. I told this young Canadian singer that Madonna once tried to kick us off this patio, and asked her which label did she like on her visit to Los Angles? Madonna, came back the reply. Yes, this girl signed with Madonna’s label Maverick and soon my friends were calling me to tell me that my friend was all over the television and her song was a big hit. Canadian recording artist and songwriter Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill sold over 33 million copies worldwide and all those hundred’s of millions went through Madonna’s company. My very dear friend ended up doing Madonna’s Blond Ambition World Tour’s and a fellow Toronto man Arthur Fogel ended up looking after Madonna on her tours with Clear Channel Touring spun off into what is now Live Nation.

Does Madonna have a sixth sense? She had the sense not to kick us off the patio of the Sunset Tower Hotel, cause you never know. Magic is real and dream’s come true in Hollywood, Sunset Tower Hotel, and magic is what will happen when Madonna takes the field on Super Bowl Sunday 2012.

Orgiastic future and loose billions !

Olympic Tower's New York City

As the author of the article The Khashoggi Connection by Robert Collison writes, I have never doubted the opportunities given if we pursue our dreams. F. Scott Fitsgerald’s Gatsby believed in the “orgiastic future,” where everything is possible for those with the imagination and ambition to think big. So many have changed the world in a positive manner such as Steve Job’s, who has given me the tools to tell stories of those who have made it and those who are on the way to making it with the gifts and talents that enlighten our world, entertain us. and make the world dance. Everyone has to start’s somewhere and this article sums up generally how it all started for me, it is flawed as media tend’s to do with any story yet it does get something’s right.
