TIFF 2013 – Rehka Bhardwaj – MTV Unplugged To Indian Cinema 100 – Toronto

Rekha As a boy I grew up going to recording studios to watch my uncle Saleem Raza a great playback singer record music. Visiting film sets with my grandmother to see her friend Pakistani singer, actress Noor Jahan with whom I would fall in-love each every-time. Music is central to any film, but none more than Indian films or for that matter Pakistani films.

Deepa Mehta Canadian filmmaker director, knows full well the magic that music add’s to the screen her films have never cheated you on the musical score. She is planing a treat for all those who get a ticket, to this years Toronto International Film Festival Gala, Indian Cinema 100. The event is filled with music.

The Tiff-Gala team is working at a frantic pace, and I can tell you this is going to be one very special event. Into the mix those attending will be treated to the amazing voice of Rekha Bhardwaj an Indian playback singer. She is known in the industry for her distinctive singing style. She is the recipient of a National Film Award for the Best Female Playback Singer for the film Ishqiya in 2011. In 2012, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer (Female) along with Usha Uthup for the song “Darling” from 7 Khoon Maaf. She is married to the famous director, producer, and music composer, Vishal Bharadwaj.

First let me share my uncles voice with you, who loved living in Vancouver. Vancouver is also where the Co-Chair of the Tiff Gala comes from Warren Sptiz as does the chef that will dazzle the taste buds at the Tiff Gala chef Vikram Vij.

Here is the voice that all at the TIFF Gala will be treated too. In this MTV Unplugged event Rekha pays tribute to another great Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who’s album I played to a film director Tim Robbins which resulted in a collobaration between Nusrat and Eddie Vedder in Tim’s movie ‘Dead Man Walking’
