When I arrived on the early end at the Jane Hotel for Harrysparty, an annual pre-Met Ball bash thrown by hairstylist Harry Josh, it was clear the host meant business: All the couches were pushed against the wall, and already cheesy (awesome) wedding music was playing. “I’m so excited!” Amanda Seyfried exclaimed, throwing her hands up like the Y in YMCA. The song wasn’t on, but Hot Chocolate’s “You Sexy Thing” was. “She’s a Harry’s Party virgin!” Josh said—and one of the few. After twelve years, Josh’s friends look forward to his annual soiree as a kind of between-Fashion-Weeks reunion. “It’s like prom night,” Joan Smalls said, though with a different dress code. Smalls was in a leather crop top and pants (“Of course, I’m not shy,” she said), and nearby Behati Prinsloo was rocking knee socks and an army jacket painted with the words: “Always on my mind.”
Around midnight, a parade of fashion-industry prom queens arrived including Gisele Bündchen, Harley Viera-Newton, and Natalie Joos, wearing lace Dolce & Gabbana dresses with Sicilian-style crowns of flowers. “This is the one night each year I come out just to dance with my friends,” said Bündchen, a Harrysparty veteran. She took a twirl just
as the party’s prom king (or at least, a fantasy prom date for most of the attendee’s) arrived: Leonardo DiCaprio. “Harry! You look like you’ve been in a cryogenic chamber!” DiCaprio said to his host and, true enough, the night felt like a rare occasion to party as if you’re forever young.
